Last Thursday night was a busy night for GlowMetrics as we had the honour of attending not one, but TWO awards ceremonies: the Women In Business Awards, which took place in the beautiful Culloden Estate and Spa, and the Eircom Golden Spiders in the Convention Centre, Dublin.
Women In Business is a business support network for women across all industries in Northern Ireland. Their annual awards ceremony recognises exceptional achievements in business by women of all walks of life and this year we were delighted to discover that our Managing Director, Joanne, had been nominated in the category of Best Start-Up (Knowledge Economy).
With local legend Pamela Ballantine steering us through the night and making sure everything ran smoothly, we knew we were in safe hands. After a delicious meal, followed by an inspirational talk by guest speaker, celebrity psychologist Dr. Linda Papadopolous, about the importance of pursuing our ambitions now, instead of waiting for the “perfect time”, it was time to get down to business. The innovative Limeforge ended up taking away the award on the night, however we believe it’s not a bad consolation to be able to lay claim to being one of the best female-led start-ups in the country!
It was also a great night at the Eircom Spiders, hosted by the hilarious Jennifer Maguire and Bernard O’Shea.
GlowMetrics were nominated for the Web Analytics and Optimisation award and, while we lost to some great competition in the form of SuperValu (in conjunction with Starcom), we were delighted to be recognised at such a prestigious ceremony.
There was plenty to keep everyone entertained on the night, from golf simulators to tarantulas – yes tarantulas! We even got to hold one but were glad to give it back to its owner when it started to bite! We also bumped into some old friends including Emer Lawn from MediaWorks and Sinead Conway from Starcom. Emer has since managed to uncover a throwback photo from 2008 – I think we are all glad we’ve moved on from then!
Both nights were a great success, with good food, good entertainment and good craic! As a relatively new company, we’re proud to gain recognition from our peers for our achievements and to be held in the same esteem as these successful companies. As for the future…as the saying goes, “If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again!”
